Adult carers welcome Provost to Christmas lunch in Dalmellington
19 DecemberProvost Stephanie Young enjoyed an early Christmas lunch with a group of adult carers at Dalmellington House recently.
The lunch was expertly prepared by young trainees who have been preparing Christmas lunches for carers every day since 14 November and will keep up the good work until 20 December.
After lunch, Lillian Meikle from Moscow Community Hall Committee handed over a cheque for £300 to Carer Centre Manager Jane Smith that will be used to support young carers. The money was raised through a Fun Day that was organised in support of ‘The Wee Ride’, which saw motorcyclists making a 6,500 mile round trip from Moscow to East Ayrshire to Moscow, Russia in aid of charity.
Lillian also had the chance to see how some vases that she’d donated to Dalmellington House looked in their new surroundings. They had belonged to a cousin of her father and when she mentioned to Provost Young that she had nowhere to put them, the Provost knew immediately where they would fit in!
Provost Young said: “The young trainees served us a delightful Christmas lunch – I understand that they’ve had plenty of practice at it over the last few weeks! They are all gaining valuable experience of working in a kitchen and front-of-house, while the carers get to enjoy an excellent lunch, so there are great benefits all round.”
